Improve your mental wellbeing and resilience to stress with Neurofeedback Training, a non-invasive, highly engaging, and fun type of Neurotherapy backed by over 50 years of neuroscientific research.
Many different psychiatric conditions are characterized by specific patterns of brain activity, which has led researchers and clinicians to test the efficacy of EEG and fMRI-based neurofeedback training as a method of treating such disorders by altering aspects of brain function (non invasively and painlessly).
Interestingly, studies have shown that neurofeedback training as a therapy for ADHD may be even more effective than the standard medication (Methylphenidate/Ritalin) used to treat this disorder. This was shown in 2002 by Vincent Monastra and colleagues at the FPI Attention Disorders Clinic in New York, who studied 100 children diagnosed with ADHD.
Neurofeedback has been used to treat anxiety, depression, epilepsy, insomnia, drug addiction, schizophrenia, learning disabilities, dyslexia and dyscalculia, autistic spectrum disorders and so on as well as other applications such as pain management, and the improvement of musical and athletic performance.
At Neotherapy, we have been helping clients improve their mental well-being using Neurofeedback Training for over 10 years and we are now proud to introduce a brand new service that will allow you to train remotely under the supervision of a dedicated neuroscientist.
Dr. Francesco Amico Ph.D. (School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland) is a behavioral neuroscientist with over 20 years of research experience.
During his career he has had the opportunity to develop expertise in psychopharmacology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalogram (EEG), and LORETA Z score quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG)-guided neurofeedback training.
Dr. Amico’s original peer-reviewed research has contributed to unveiling neurological anomalies in persons with affective disorders and developing novel technology to improve their diagnosis and treatment.
He currently works as a neuroscience consultant and remote neurofeedback specialist, collaborating with clinics, therapists, and high-tech companies throughout North America.
Neurofeedback is a form of neurotherapy that trains your brainwaves to
achieve a healthier state – kind of like exercise, but for your brain!
Neurofeedback uses EEG technology to measure your brainwave activity
and offer you feedback on your performance in real time, through visual and/or auditory cues from videos or games.
Absolutely! Neurofeedback is a safe, evidence-based therapy which has been used for decades and poses little or no side effects.
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive neurotherapy. During your training
sessions, a monitoring system will be placed on your head and scalp to measure
your brain activity.
Neurofeedback training may cause very mild side effects, like slight
fatigue. However, these side effects are temporary and will pass quickly. This is similar to how your body feels after putting in a hard workout at the gym!
When you’re doing a neurofeedback session, you will use a dry electrode
headset, with the option of an additional electrode on your head to
measure your brainwave activity.
During your session, you will play games or watch videos and receive
feedback in real time regarding your performance. This lets you know when
your brainwaves are in the desired state and when they’re not. Over time, these training sessions will help regulate your brainwaves and allow you to achieve your goals.
Neurofeedback has been used to alleviate symptoms for conditions such
as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, addiction,
traumatic brain injuries, and more.
In addition, it has also been used to improve performance and enhance one’s overall wellbeing.
Sessions typically last between 20-30 minutes, on average, depending on your goals and program. Most treatment plans recommend 30-40 sessions.
To get started with training, you’ll need:
• A training kit, complete with a Muse headset, external electrode, and
conductive paste
• A device to train on, like a phone or tablet
• An internet connection
• A training program, customized by your mental health practitioner
• The desire to achieve your brain goals!
